Now hiring seasonal workers! Our paid Trail Steward crew has openings starting now through the end of the season. In the past our crew has included 3 dirt bike riders each year as a single crew working together to help clear and maintain off-highway vehicle trails during the season from May/June through mid-October. The crew usually works 40 hour weeks (4 or 5 days), but the schedule may be flexible and may include a part-time option if needed. Areas covered are generally in the Little Belt Mountains and the Highwood Mountains.
Our Trail Stewards ride dirt bikes with chainsaws mounted, along with other hand tools as needed. Trail Stewards must have current first aid / CPR certification, which GFTBRA will provide if needed. Additionally, crew members must complete a USFS approved Sawyer certification course. GFTBRA will coordinate training. We are tentatively planning on having a sawyer class in July. Trail Stewards can start prior to completing saw training, but saw work will be completed by a saw certified Trail Steward until you complete training.
Applicants must be 18 years old or older and a proficient dirt bike rider able to ride singletrack trails as needed. The work can at times be physically demanding, so being at least somewhat physically fit would be a positive.
Trail Stewards must provide their own trail bike, with current OHV decal, Trailpass decal, and USFS approved spark arrestor. Pay is $35 per hour and paid weekly. Trail Stewards cover their own bike maintenance, travel, and fuel. GFTBRA provides the hand tools, saws, saw mounts, training courses, and saw maintenance items as needed. Crew members usually carpool to sites and sometimes camp on-site to keep expenses lower.
